Chemainus Walking Tours

Join Isabel Askew, one of the first female settlers,
for an insightful historical tour to gain a glimpse of how Chemainus became
“The Little Town That Did”.

Guided in character by an experienced Historical Interpreter, you will walk the footsteps of Chemainus history as Isabel Askew (b.1850) brings the stories of the murals to life.

Discover how British settlers seeking fortune made their way, and how the harshness of early pioneering life took its toll. Learn how the resilience of early Chemainus residents - including Mrs. Askew - carried them through tough economic times and both World Wars.
And, with the assistance of world-class artists, see for yourself how the hardships of later years formed Chemainus as it is today.

Delve into the mystery and rich culture heritage that make Chemainus what it is today: the Coast Salish people; the Chinese Bull gangs; Tsimminis; Horse Shoe Bay; and finally, modern-day Chemainus. This may be the most entertaining and informative 45 minutes of your time spent in our town!
